Govt to open mandi for small farmers in six months times

While speaking at the foundation stone laying function of proposed Kisan Mandi, Singh said, ‘We are not against the Azadpur mandi model, but we want to empower farmers more by providing a platform for them to get best price of their produce.’
While spelling out the modalities of functioning of the first-of-its-kind mandi in the country, the agriculture minister said, ‘This mandi is very unique as small farmers will be able to sell fruits and vegetables directly to both retail as well as bulk consumers like organised retailers, hotels and
exporters, among others,’ adding that Farmer Producers Organisations (FPOs) and Growers Associations (GAs) will only keep their sample produce and deliver them directly from their collection centre to buyers once sold.
