The Ministry of Culture has been receiving complaints regarding alleged administrative and financial irregularities in the Lalit Kala Akademi, which is one of the Ministry’s autonomous organisations, for the past few years.
The Akademi’s General Council and Executive Board are non-functional since 2013 due to some pending court cases. Moreover, the Akademi’s principal executive officer i.e. Secretary is under suspension with a departmental inquiry having been ordered against him.
Keeping in view the Akademi’s beleaguered administration and the substantial public interest involved in its vibrant and transparent functioning, the Central government through the Ministry of Culture has invoked relevant provisions in the Akademi’s Memorandum of Association for taking over the its management with effect from April 1, 2015.
KK Mittal, IAS, Additional Secretary in Ministry of Culture, has been appointed the Central government’s administrator for the Akademi.
