Govt sets up complaint centre against private schools

With complaints against private schools increasing by the day, the Delhi government on Thursday set up a complaint centre to deal with their arbitrary functioning and grievances of parents. Now, parents can send their grievances to the centre without any fear of harassment by school management.

“Besides the corrupt practices in admissions and paying paltry salary to teachers, private schools are using loopholes in the rules to harass parents and increase fee arbitrarily,” said a senior government officer in the Directorate of Education.

The office of the Private Schools Complaint Centre will be located at the New Delhi District Education office in Jhandewalan. In addition to this office, parents can also e-mail their grievances to the centre. “The process of setting-up the centre was necessitated by the recent disturbing developments, particularly the takeover notice to two schools and a direction to a third private school to roll back its unjustified fee hike,” added the officer. As per a decision of the Delhi high court, schools which have been constructed on land provided by the government cannot hike their fee without the government’s approval.
