Govt schools in Noida fail to pay power bills, face severe outages

This situation has arrived due to over Rs 1 crore outstanding amount of electricity bill to the state owned power distributing company — Poorvanchal Vidhyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL).

Sources in the power department said that they have been planning to cut connections of all the schools as they have failed the deadline of submitting the bills. They said action will be initiated after the Noida by-polls if bills are not paid till then.

According to the report, a total amount of Rs 93 lakh is due from 435 schools since the last financial year. In addition to this, the discoms want Rs 30 lakh in advance from the education department for the current financial year. Sources claimed that the delay happened as the state government had not released the bill amount by the end of March. As money has not been released yet, payment has not been made despite the deadline. An amount of Rs 73 lakh is due from 317 primary schools, Rs 15.4 lakh from 115 middle schools while Rs 4.7 lakh is due from three higher secondary schools. Majority of defaulters are in Dadri division where the department had cut few connections earlier.

‘As there is no information about payment of the bill amount, the department is planning to cut connections of the schools. We are waiting for the by-polls in the city and once it is over we will conduct a drive against the defaulters,’ said an official of the power department.
