Govt promises four new mandis to check sky-rocketing prices

These four markets will come up in Mangolpuri, <g data-gr-id="36">Nasirpur</g>, Okhla and <g data-gr-id="37">Tigri</g> Khanpur areas. At present, there are three major wholesale vegetable markets in Azadpur, Ghazipur and Okhla.

“Aiming to control the soaring prices of vegetables and fruits and cater to the demands of people living in Delhi, we have decided to build four vegetables and fruit markets,” said a senior government official.

He added that every year, the prices of vegetables and fruits go up, which makes the ‘Aam Aadmi’s’ budget go haywire, but with these four new markets, the government will store sufficient stock of vegetables and fruits and put a check on black marketing.

According to the plan, fodder market – which has been closed in Mangolpuri since 2009 – will be developed as <g data-gr-id="27">a wholesale vegetables</g> and fruit market. 

“We have also decided to develop a fodder market, which has been closed for years and is situated near the Okhla mandi, <g data-gr-id="33">a into</g> new vegetable and fruit market there.

“We have also plans to come up with a new wholesale market in <g data-gr-id="38">Nasirpur</g> area near Dwarka,” the official said, adding that the government would soon seek land for this market from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

Officials hope that the new vegetable markets in Okhla and Mangolou <g data-gr-id="34">ri</g> areas will be functional within the next two months. Work will start on the <g data-gr-id="35">Nasirpur</g> market as soon as DDA gives us land for it.
<g data-gr-id="54">Government</g> also said that in <g data-gr-id="29">Tigri</g> Khanpur area of west Delhi, <g data-gr-id="31">a new vegetables</g> and fruit market will be built on 70-acre land which will become functional in two years.
