Govt official facing sexual harassment charges gets six-month extension!

MK Singh, currently the acting chairman, was accused of sexual harassment by one of the female employees of Bridge & Roof Co. (India) Ltd. Later, even the internal complaint committee for prevention of sexual harassment of women at workplace of this company found him guilty. But no action was taken against him. Singh also managed to stop terminal dues of another woman employee, Linda Allen, who was the chairperson of that enquiry committee. The complaint had been filed by a female employee of same name – Linda Allen – alleging ‘indecent behaviour of Boss MK Singh’. Serving 33 years in Bridge & Roof Co. (India) Ltd, she alleged that since 2011 when Singh joined the company she faced ‘tremendous strain and mental stress’ due to the ‘harassment and humiliation’ she faced due to Singh.

Linda Allen, former personal secretary to the chairman and the one who chaired the probe panel,  has sought justice from president Pranab Mukherjee seeking his intervention for immediate release of her terminal dues after serving 42 years in this company. She alleged that terminal dues can be held back only if there is any vigilance case. And her vigilance case had already been cleared earlier.

According to Allen, after submission of her findings to the internal complaint committee where Singh was found guilty, she received two chargesheets on flimsy grounds two days before her superannuation. She also appeared before a disciplinary committee to clear her name from that chargesheet but the proceedings of departmental action have been put on hold.

Incidentally, this sexual harrassment case has reached the court and the hearing will take place on 18 November in Metropolitan court in Kolkata.
