Govt installs sound devices across city to check pollution

The environment department of Delhi government has adopted several measures to control pollution ahead of festival of Diwali. The department has installed six sound devices at prominent locations across the city to assess the level of sound pollution in the city.

It has also issued direction to all the enforcement agencies to monitor noise pollution. The sound devices have been installed near IGI Airport, RK Puram, Mandir Marg, Metcalfe House, Anand Vihar and Punjabi Bagh, officials said.

The SDMs and police have also been directed to conduct raids against cracker manufacturers flouting prescribed norms.

‘They have been asked to constitute inspecting teams for ensuring compliance of Supreme Court direction regarding complete ban on bursting of sound emitting fire crackers between 10 pm and 6 am during Diwali festival’, said a senior official from environment department of Delhi government.
