Govt insists on correct GPS systems for auto-rickshaws

Delhi transport minister Ramakant Goswami on Tuesday discussed issues related to operation of auto rickshaws, after the recent fare revision and underlined the need to educate people to check whether the GPS system installed in auto-rickshaws are functional.

Goswami also constituted a committee comprising of additional commissioner (Transport), assistant commissioner of police (PRG), deputy general manager (DIMTS) to discuss issues related to the pre-paid system and monitoring and analysing of GPS data and colour marking on the auto rickshaws for deciding their direction of movement, especially at night, to reduce cases of refusal and increase in quality service.

Commuters should also be informed about various facilities available in GPS system especially the 'trip start' and 'trip end' system which is helpful in working out the chargeable fare.

It was also decided in the meeting that all auto-rickshaws which do not have the GPRS system in 'switch on' mode should be issued notice for cancellation of permits.

Goswami directed that time schedule for installation of GPS system in old auto-rickshaws be worked out.

Goswami further directed that special enforcement be conducted at railway stations, bus terminals, ISBTs and airport to ensure better transport services for the people.

It was also decided to involve representatives of weights and measure department to check the accuracy of fare meters installed in auto rickshaws.
