Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for more emphasis on clean energy in the power sector while launching NTPC’s 1,000-mw super thermal power station at Mouda on Thursday. ‘Our mission would be to provide 24x7 electricity to all Indians,’ he said.
With an investment of Rs 5,459 crore for stage I and proposed investment of Rs 7,921 crore for stage II, the project is poised to be NTPC’s biggest power station in Maharashtra.
Emphasising the importance of infrastructure, the Prime Minister said, ‘No country can grow without infrastructure. It is only when we are able to set up infra projects like NTPC-Mouda that we can look forward to the growth of the country. He said that in the present day scenario, electricity is the prime mover of growth of the nation and the needs of all sections of society to lead a quality life. ‘Our villages come to a standstill in the evening as there is no electricity, even in other areas of the country where electricity is available, people get four-six hours in a day,’ Modi said
‘I consider electricity most important for growth of the country and therefore I am concentrating on this sector since I took over as Prime Minister of the country. Clean energy shall be our focus in the power sector and our mission shall be 24-hour electricity for all.’
He said electricity not just removes darkness from our lives but also brings industry, employment and prosperity. Therefore, it shall be our endeavor to generate electricity from all available sources of power be it wind, solar, coal, gas or waste material.
This multi fuel approach will lead us to roof top solar policy where each house holder will be able to generate power for themselves.
He said, ‘We are working towards ensuring fuel for our power projects for maximum production of electricity, but we need to use the generated electricity judiciously. He emphasized on saving electricity and suggested that it should be made compulsory topic for students in the schools and taken as a mission by all.
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water & Sanitation Nitin Gadkari, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal and NTPC Chairman and Managing Director Dr, Arup Roy Choudhury were also present.
