Govt, civic bodies join hands to catch monkeys

The MCD on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court that it would catch the monkeys in co-ordination with other departments of the city government following a PIL seeking a direction for appropriate steps to stop monkey menace.

Appearing for MCD, counsel Madhu Tewatia submitted before the bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw that a meeting, chaired by the MCD Commissioner, with other departments was held on Monday and a decision was taken to catch monkeys in co-ordination with other departments.

The counsel also sought to withdraw its plea in which MCD had sought the court to direct the Wild Life Department of Delhi government to take up the work as MCD did not have trained monkey-catchers.

The bench allowed the counsel to withdraw the application.
