Govt bans import of human embryo except for research

New Delhi: The government on Tuesday prohibited the import of human embryo, except for research purposes, based on the guidelines of the Department of Health Research. “Import of human embryo is prohibited except for research purposes based on the guidelines of the Department of Health Research,” said a notification issued by Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). As per the existing policy conditions, the import of human embryo was free, subject to a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).AGENCIES
