Govt asks states to be prepared for natural disasters in future

The government has asked states to be prepared for natural disasters in the future. Addressing a conference on disaster management on Saturday, Union Home Secretary LC Goyal said, “One should be more vigilant as the country is prone and vulnerable to the floods and earthquake as about 59 per cent part of the country is prone earthquake.”
Asking the states to take lessons from recent earthquake in the country and neighbouring Nepal, the home secretary called for seamless co-ordination between all agencies to deal with crisis situation. Promising all kind of central assistance to the states, Goyal said, they should maintain the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) properly and exercise the financial discipline. The Home Secretary said, there is also a need to take warnings related to any disaster seriously so that agencies can prepared themselves and maximum lives and infrastructure can be saved.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General of National Disaster Response Force OP Singh effective coordination among all rescue and relief agencies can only bring down the casualties.
