Government plans to revamp women’s helpline

The Delhi government is planning to revamp its women helpline — 181. “There are certain loopholes in the helpline which need to be addressed to make it more effective”, said Ashwini Kumar, secretary of women & child development and social welfare department of Delhi government. Kumar said the staff managing the helpline has to be trained enough to understand whether a call made to the helpline requires police help or counselling.

According to recent analysis of the data of calls received by the helpline in the month of November, as many as 50 per cent of them were recorded as blank and irrelevant. The department is also planning to integrate the helpline with the other crisi centres of central government.
