The Delhi government’s education department allotted 4,799 kids for nursery admission to private schools under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota. These students will be admitted under the EWS category at private schools in the city. Besides free education, they will be provided with free uniform, bags and books.
“The second round of the computerised draw was conducted for 7,687 seats at entry level, like nursery or kindergarten. A total of 4,799 kids were selected through a draw and allotted to the schools,” said a senior officer of the education department.
The Department of Education held the second round for the session 2016-17 on Tuesday. According to the official information, there were 7,687 seats of EWS category at entry level in private schools. Out of these, 2,516 seats were for nursery classes in 342 schools, 1,069 vacancies were at KG level in 127 schools, and 4,106 seats were available at class I level in 406 private schools.

It is for the first time in the history of the Delhi government that centralised draw system for admission in EWS seats of private schools have taken place. Earlier, parents had to apply at individual schools to get admission, which was hectic and time consuming.

“A total of 531 candidates rejected the offer citing the school did not suit them, out of which 90 candidates were later adjusted in their desired schools,” added the officer. Further, 266 students have taken provisional admission.
