Ahead of the National Development Council (NDC) meet on Thursday to approve the 12th plan, the government is bracing itself from attack of chief minister from opposition ruled states. The government is in particular wary of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, who has been a vocal critic of the policies of the government.
In the recent past Modi had lambasted the central government for its stepmotherly towards non Congress states.
In the NDC meet held in 2011, the Gujarat chief minister had accused the central government of being undemocratic and overreaching the federal powers bestowed on it by the constitution.
Modi had even accused the Gujarat governor of going beyond the constitutional mandate and had alleged that the central government of not checking her powers. Like the previous times the government also expects heavy criticism from Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha, who like Modi had accused the central government of keeping the state governments under constant threat of dismissal.
The other headache for the government is the persistent demand from Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar for a special status to Bihar, Nitish Kumar has been repeatedly seeking changes in the criteria set by the centre for giving special status to any state, however over the past six years his demand has not received an optimistic response from the government.
