The Terminator actor, who was in Chennai, in connection with the audio launch of a Tamil film ‘I,’ met the chief minister at the state secretariat on 15 September. The meeting lasted for 20 minutes.
In his letter to Jayalalithaa, the 67-year-old actor, said it was fantastic to sit down with her and discuss the success she was having in Tamil Nadu and the challenges she faced. ‘The work you do for women and children really touched me. I am not surprised at all that the people of Tamil Nadu call you Amma,’ said Schwarzenegger.
Schwarzenegger said the all-women police stations, an initiative of the previous AIADMK government, were a brilliant idea. ‘I am surprised I have not heard it before,’ he said adding that it was great to hear that the Jayalalithaa embraced clean and renewable energy in the state.
The actor, who runs an organisation, R20: Regions of Climate Action, which works with sub-national governments around the world to move toward a clean energy future, expressed his interest to work with the Tamil Nadu government.
‘Over 560 cities and states have joined us, and I think that Tamil Nadu is a perfect partner. I would love to invite you to join, and I will have my staff follow up with your environmental minister because let us not forget, our responsibility is not just to clean up the air in our own states, but to inspire others to do what you have done in Tamil Nadu and we have done in California,’ he said.
