Gopal Rai suspends 6 transport employees

Delhi Transport minister Gopal Rai suspended six employees of the transport department on charges of corruption on Tuesday. He has also decided to refer the case for initiating departmental proceedings against them and ordered further probe into the matter.
These six employees were found involved in corrupt practices at Azadpur flyover during a surprise check by the minister past midnight on May 1. All of them were found in collusion, collecting bribes from truck drivers.
Of the officials placed under suspension, five belong to the Enforcement wing of the transpsort department and one to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). The accused are — ASI Vijay Kumar, ASI Babu Ram, Head Constables Pramod Kumar, Jaiveer and Jitendra Kumar and DTC driver Praveen.
Rai emphasised the need to take appropriate measures to end corrupt practices prevalent in the day-to-day functioning of the transport department. He said the government will take strict actions against corruption and malpractices.
The minister even appealed to the public to lodge complaints against corruption with the 1031 helpline. He also directed senior officials to make more field visits and keep strict vigil on activities of their subordinate officials.
