Going by DND flyway to get 13 pc more expensive

Commuters on Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) Flyway will have to shell out extra money to travel on it as the operator has increased the toll rate by 13 per cent for cars and 9 per cent for bikes. The new rates will be applicable from 12 am on Saturday. This is the second hike in a year: the last revision of toll rates was implemented on 1 November 2011.

Meanwhile, Federation of Noida RWAs (FONRWA) has called it ‘loot of public money by operator in connivance with officers of Noida Authority’ and has summoned an emergency meeting on Saturday to protest the recent hike.

‘We have revised the toll rates to solve the problem of loose coins and to minimise the losses faced by the company. The new toll rates have been rounded off keeping in mind the availability of loose coins. Since the coins of one rupees are rare in the market in comparison to coins of two and five rupees,’ said Anwar Abbasi, spokesperson, Noida Toll Bridge Company Ltd, the operator of DND Flyway to the Millennium Post. The major chunk DND users constitute cars and bike which use the flyway as a short cut to commute in both the directions from Noida to South Delhi, Noida to East Delhi and East Delhi to South Delhi. According to the operators the present strength of vehicles passing through DND per day is 95,000. ‘Over 77 percent of the vehicles are cars and another around 20-22 percent are two wheelers and rest one percent constitute all other vehicles,’ added Abbasi.

The toll rates for cars has been hiked from Rs 22 to Rs 25 and for two wheelers from Rs 11 to Rs 12 per crossing.

‘Its an open loot of money from public by the operator in connivance with the officers of Noida Authority. The operator has already realised its investment and it should not be allowed to recover more money. The flyway must be handed over to authority or government,’ said N P Singh, president of FONRWA.

‘I came to know about the increase through media. We have summoned an emergency meeting to decided future course of action. As protest we will jam the DND flyway on Saturday and also considering to approach High Court to get the contract of the operator ceased,’ added Singh. ‘People are engaged in preparation of Diwali and they have hiked the rates without consulting the public representatives. It will not be tolerated,’ said S K Tiwari president of Sector 20 RWA in Noida.
