Three days after siting at dharna, BJP Member of Parliament in East Delhi Maheish Girri on Tuesday ended his fast when Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh persuaded him. Girri had been on an indefinite hunger strike since Sunday outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in protest against the CM’s allegations that he was involved in the murder of a senior NDMC employee MM Khan and demanded Girri’s arrest in this connection.
The Home minister promised Girri an impartial inquiry into Kejriwal’s allegations in Khan murder case. “I have come here to request Maheish Girriji to end his fast,” the Home Minister said. In a face saving exercise, Girri said: “I challenged Kejriwal for a debate, it has been three days. He didn’t turn up so it’s their loss. I’m going to end my hunger strike today (Tuesday).”
Rajnath Singh, who reached the venue of hunger strike, asked Girri to not to get distracted by these tactics of political mudslingings. “The police in its investigation have not found anything against him in the alleged murder of MM Khan. He should not be disturbed by the allegations levelled due to political malice. Everywhere in the society people are praising the moral courage and the works of Maheish Girri. It is necessary that Maheish Girri should disregard the allegations levelled due to political malice and concentrate on human service,” said Singh. Union Home Minister and BJP Delhi Pradesh President Satish Upadhyay offered drinking water to Girri who then ended his hunger strike.
Moreover, after ending the strike Girri tweeted and challenged CM Kejriwal for a debate on Wednesday. “Hello @ArvindKejriwal, I will come for a debate by end of day tomorrow(Tuesday). Your Time. Your Place. Your People. PS: pls do bring all the proofs,” he tweeted. While continuing his protest, Girri performed yoga outside CM’s residence on Tuesday morning on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
After the reports about deterioration in the health of Maheish Girri surfaced late on Monday night, Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and Pradesh BJP President Satish Upadhyay, MPs Pravesh Verma, Vijay Goel, former Mayor Harsh Malhotra, former MLA Pawan Sharma, Subhash Sachdeva, Jitender Singh Shunty etc senior leaders came to meet Girri at the site of hunger strike on Tuesday.
