Girl killed in firing by Pak, 4th ceasefire breach in 3 days

A teenage girl was killed and four persons were injured as Pakistani troops targeted villages and Indian forward posts along the LoC.

The forces from across the LoC targeted Indian forward posts as well as some civilian areas in Sabjian sector using small arms and mortars. According to Defence sources, the Pakistan forces resorted to unprovoked firing around 2 pm which lasted for two and half an hour. Sources said the Indian troops retaliated effectively to silence the Pakistani guns.

According to agency news, firing in civilian areas has created fresh wave of panic among the villagers living along the Line of Control. After a lull of several days the Pakistan forces had resorted to firing and shelling in the area on Wednesday night. This is the fourth ceasefire violation in the past three days.

There were three ceasefire violations in Sabjian and Mandi sub-sectors in Poonch and one in forward area in Kashmir Valley on 1 October.

In a bid to defuse border tension triggered by 45 days of firing and shelling by Pakistani troops, the longest since 1971 war, India and Pakistan on 29 August held a crucial Sector Commander (DIG-Brigadier) level flag meeting on Octerio BoP in RS Pura sector to decide to maintain peace and tranquility by silencing guns.
