Ghaziabad youth on killing spree

A youth in Ghaziabad has apparently been on a killing spree for the last 15 days but is still out of the reach of police.

Identified as 22-year-old Prashant Sharma, a resident of village Chiroi in Loni and originally hailing from Modi Nagar, the accused has not even left his own mother.

On Sunday morning, he tried to murder his mother but the bullet went astray, injuring her and one more woman in the area. The women are admitted in government district hospital of Ghaziabad.
He is already accused of murdering his wife and two neighbours.

On Sunday, Sharma reached his mother’s house in Vijay Nagar, where she has been living alone for the last 12 years, around 8.30 am. He was with a friend on a bike.

He reportedly asked her why she did not come to attend his father’s last rights a week ago. His father Dharam Prakash, 50, and his mother, Sunita, 45, had separated around 12 years ago, after he suspected her of having extramarital affairs.

An argument broke out over the matter and Sharma opened fire at Sunita with a country-made pistol. The bullet hit her leg and got lodged in the shoulder of a woman washing utensils in the neighbourhood. The victims are said to be out of danger.

Sharma, an undergraduate student from CCS Meerut University, had gone against his parents’ wishes to get married to a colleague, Anjana Singh, around two-and-a-half years ago.

According to neighbours, Sharma had been involved in many petty criminal activities and Anjana was not aware of it. After marriage, she asked him several times to mend his ways but he refused.

‘It had become a matter of conflict between the couple and she even threatened to divorce him,’ said Rajneesh Singh, a neighbour.

Anjana was also pressurising Sharma to reconcile with his estranged mother.

Finally on 19 June, Sharma had a fight with Anjana and he accused her of having extramarital affair. The fight got out of control and he shot her.

Then on 23 June, he shot his neighbour Dayachand, 50, and his son Ganesh, 25, for they informed the police about his wife’s murder.
