Ggn admin, cops join hands to fight impending Jat agitation

In the wake of the Jat agitations that might restart from March 17, Gurgaon District Administration and Gurgaon Police have come in coordination with each other and are very serious to control the situation. The members of the Jat community in Haryana had threatened last week to re-launch the agitation for reservation in support of other demands if the state and the Centre failed to accept their demands.

As per the date set by the Jat community leaders, they will be launching the agitation from March 17. The District Commissioner had shared his experience of handling the situation and had confirmed that civil administration and city police will work in synergy to avoid any discomfort to the people of Gurgaon.

District Magistrate on Wednesday issued orders and appointed 23 duty magistrates who will be posted in various police stations across the city. Three State District Magistrates have been appointed to keep an overall eye on the maintenance of law and order is their respective areas. A coordination meeting of duty magistrates and police officers was organised today in the meeting hall of Mini Secretariat, in which emphasis was laid on working with perfect coordination particularly between duty magistrates and police officers.

It was also decided in the meeting that videography will be done so as to ensure that the violators of law during the agitation are penalised in the court. However, police officials also discussed that police will be granted permission to open fire if the agitators do not maintain peace and harmony by killing innocent people and causing damage to property.

However, a lot of Jat protestors have no such plans for protesting further. “We have agitated and given time to the government to hear our demands. I don’t see a point in protesting, since we have already done it,” said Paramjeet Singh, spokesperson of the National Jat Federation.

The officials were guided that if they see the situation going out of hands, they must first use water cannons, tear gas bombs, lathis before using weapons or opening fire.

“Whatever said and done, I believe that Gurgaon’s district department will not let the agitation affect the city’s normal life. I would suggest everything goes as per normalcy and there is nothing to worry about the situation,” said T L Satyaprakash, the District Commissioner of Gurgaon.
