Getting high on music

When did you start with this career? And how did it all start off?
I started my career when I was 14 years old. When I was growing up that is, my father was the owner of many clubs in the South of France. I always wanted to be a DJ and I would always go to his clubs where I could practice. One summer, I got a chance to be the resident DJ at this club called Papa Gayo in Central Bay and that’s where it all started for me.

How has the journey been? Tell us about the best and the worst times so far...
The best times for me have been performing in front of a large crowd along with seeing my career getting better and better.
The worst times were realising you have to be away from home and always be on a plane travelling. Sometimes it gets lonely on the road. You are far away from your friends and family but that’s what you have to do. It’s all good though.

How do you like the music scene in India?

I have heard a lot of things about people coming here. I had not heard too many things at first and then all of a sudden I started hearing so many things about India. A lot of my friends have started coming to play here. Tiesto came here for the first time and I heard all about it. It is just very exciting, I had my first night in Mumbai and it was amazing. I was in shock.

How has the party music scene changed from the time you started?
EDM is very big now. I started with the scene being very techno and house in Europe. When I moved to America, dance music was not big at all. I started my career in Miami and I started blowing-up and getting big in Miami. Suddenly EDM started exploding in America. Now I am touring the world and I spent 2 weeks in Asia and I heard everybody talking about EDM. It seems like EDM has broken out all over the world. It is very crazy. I think it’s great for the industry.

Do you see a change in the music trend across the world? After EDM what do you think is going to be the next big thing in music?

I cannot say because honestly I don’t know. It so big right now. But when people are going to get tired of EDM, they will start their search for the next big thing. They are going to realise that there will be a time when other genres are going to come back in the scene.

How has Delhi treated you? Is this the first time you are performing here? What are you expecting from the crowds?

I was so surprised with the Mumbai crowd. It was amazing how the crowd is so educated. They know about all my songs and everything that I was producing. They even asked me to play some old songs that I have produced. I was so shocked. I think Delhi is going to be crazy too. I expect the same from Delhi as well.
