General category parents seek common nursery admission forms

As the race for admissions to nursery schools in the national capital is all set to start with the Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi, issuing admission guidelines, parents of general category candidates have demanded a common registration form.

‘Common registration forms are available for admissions for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and other disadvantaged groups. The forms are uploaded on the official website of DoE for the benefit of the applicants. But the general category parents have to run from one school to the other to buy separate admission forms from each school they want to apply to,’ said Amit Malkani, a concerned father.

‘Last year, when I was trying to get an admission for my son in pre-primary classes, many schools were selling the admission forms at rates higher than the Rs 25 price fixed by the government for general category candidates,’ Malkani added.

Social jurist Ashok Aggarwal said, ‘Since the Delhi government’s education department’s Recognized Schools (Admission Procedure for Pre-primary classes) (Amendment) Order, 2013, released on Wednesday laid out uniform nursery admission procedures for all unaided recognised private schools, it would be appropriate on part of the DoE to prescribe common registration forms for such admissions as has already been done in case of EWS admissions.’

‘It is submitted that by prescribing common registration form for general category admissions also, the hapless parents and students could be saved from exploitation at the hands of greedy managements of unaided private schools. If the department takes such a step, it would go a long way in preventing commercialisation of education. It is, therefore, requested that a common admission form should be prescribed for admission in nursery classes (general category) for the academic year 2014-15,’ Aggarwal added.

Directorate of Education Amit Singla said: ‘I understand it is a very sensitive issue, but it is impossible for us to come up with the common admission form this year. We will examine the issue and try issuing such forms from next year onwards.’

Parents belonging to EWS and other disadvantaged groups get common registration forms from schools or download the form from website.
