A 27-year-old woman allegedly strangled her three daughters to death and then tried to hang herself from a tree behind her residence at South East Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar at around 8.30 pm on Monday.
The woman, identified as Radha, killed her three daughters aged eight, three and eight months respectively, said a police official.
Radha was found unconscious by a neighbour who reported the matter to the police.
Radha along with her three daughters were rushed to ESI hospital where her daughters were declared brought dead and she was further referred to Safdarjung Hospital. Her condition is reported to be critical, the official added.
The motive behind the extreme act is yet to be ascertained by the police. However, Radha’s neighbours have claimed that her family members were desperate for a male child.
Radha’s husband, Raja, had been intimated by her over phone but before he could rush back to their rescue, she had already committed the deed. “Investigation is underway and all these points are yet to be verified,” said a cop.
