Gehlot’s ministry identifies potential areas of corruption

To ensure good governance and zero tolerance towards corruption, Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment has identified potential areas of corruption and its proposed action plan.

The Ministry which is headed by Union Minister <g data-gr-id="32">Thaawar</g> Chand Gehlot has won many accolades in recent past and it’s initiative to curb ill practice is a vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in promoting outstanding work culture among all the Union Ministries.

It was <g data-gr-id="34">learnt</g> that primarily there are two areas where there is a scope for corruption. These two areas are during the processing of proposals for grants from NGOs under various schemes and procurement. Further in-house study revealed there are six segments where the cause of
corruption could be higher --larger interface with the representatives of NGOs, delay in processing of proposals of NGOs, scope of discretion in processing proposals received for grants to NGOs, lack of effective monitoring of projects, lack of transparency in tendering-procurement and personal interaction with the service providers or suppliers.

Concerned over the possible areas of ill practice, the Ministry has issued <g data-gr-id="37">advisory</g> to all including online portal for receipt of proposals for grants to NGOs under various social schemes.

The instruction also prohibits officials up to the level of Under Secretary (US) from interacting with the representatives of the social welfare <g data-gr-id="31">organisations</g>.

The other proposed action advisories are: Surprise inspections of sensitive sections in the Ministry, display of boards of preventive vigilance at prominent locations, framing of <g data-gr-id="44">time-line</g> for processing the proposals received and monitoring of files and proposals through e-office system.

Not the least, the Ministry has also decided to rate its officials in four categories including excellent, very good, fair and poor. Those who will sit on files and will show <g data-gr-id="42">lack</g> of interest in clearing genuine cases will be graded with poor and might affect their service record.

Recently, Ministry’s website http://socialjustice.nic.in/ became the first portal of the Government to fulfill accessibility norms for Persons with Disabilities.
