Gates hail India on maternal, child healthcare

It’s good news at least for Ministry of Health and Family Welfare headed by JP Nadda as Bill and Melinda Gates have hailed the initiatives by India in maternal and child healthcare, along with family planning and vaccines. Applauding the efforts of the ministry at World Economic Forum in Davos, Melinda Gates said, “It’s the efforts of the government that natal and maternal deaths have gone down in the country.”

While hailing the new frameworks of PM Narendra Modi-led government, Bill Gates said, “It’s a good sign of the development. The budget framework of the government is appreciable as states have been given more budgetary allocation by changing the pattern. In the health budget, the states have to really step up and they have to do more as most of the spending in this sector is out of pocket. Also lots of quacks are there. So in such scenario, there is a big challenge as how to maintain the quality healthcare.”

Commenting on the polio programme, Melinda said, “This is a remarkable achievement of India. The vaccination programme of the country is on the track as it has recently launched four new vaccines.”

Talking to Millennium Post, Joint Secretary in Health Ministry Rakesh Kumar said, “The ministry expresses its gratitude to Gates couple for lauding our efforts. The word of praise will boost the morale of millions of healthcare workers engaged with child and maternal healthcare programmes.”
