Gas leak in Gzb, 5 hospitalised

Five women were injured due to a hazardous gas leak at a meat factory in Ghaziabad on Tuesday.
Police evacuated people from the area and locals were told to shut themselves in their homes as ammonia escaped a meat processing plant.

The victims were admitted at a nearby hospital where <g data-gr-id="26">condition</g> of three sufferers was stated to be critical.

Police said that all the workers of the factory named Allana meat processing unit, situated in Site-IV Industrial area of Sahibabad, were rushed to a nursing home in the vicinity.

“Five workers were shifted to a private hospital in Vasundhara where they are recuperating,” said a senior administrative official.

Narrating the incident, a factory worker said that the gas leaked due to leakage in a hosepipe valve in refrigeration and packaging unit of the factory at around 11.30 <g data-gr-id="35">am,</g> when a mock drill was taking place.

“While the workers were busy in their daily routine, meat packaging work, the ammonia gas valve started leaking due to a sudden rise in pressure”, said a worker.

“An FIR for negligence has been registered against the factory management and a <g data-gr-id="38">showcause</g> notice is also being served to them for violation of the Factory Act norms,” said a senior official investigating the matter.

Notably, the factory had witnessed a similar incident in November last year in which 26 persons were reported to be injured. The police had registered an FIR for negligence against the management and a <g data-gr-id="34">showcause</g> notice was served on them but was in vain.
