Garment shop catches fire, gutted

A fire in a godown in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar area on Sunday afternoon gutted valuable items and furniture worth lakhs, said fire officials.

The fire broke out around 1:30 pm in a three-storey T-shirts showroom located at Tagore Garden in Gandhi Nagar area. The showroom is owned by one Binu Suneja, 'We received the call around 2 pm,' said the fire officials.

Around 25 fire engines were immediately sent to the spot but it could not be brought under control till Sunday evening. As the showroom was situated in a narrow and congested street, the dousing operation had to be conducted using a 500-metre water pipe.

No casualty was reported in the incident but property worth lakhs was gutted. Reportedly, a short circuit in the basement caused the fire. Within a few minutes, it expanded in all three floors of the building.
