A criminal, wanted by the Delhi Police for the murder of a constable in July, was gunned down in a police encounter at Sonia Vihar in north-east Delhi, on the wee hours of Tuesday.
Feroz, alias Fauji, was on a motorbike when he was cornered by a Delhi Police team in east Delhi’s Sonia Vihar area around 5 am on Tuesday. Finding himself surrounded by the police team, Feroz fired at the police party. The police fired back in self defence. ‘He was taken to GTB hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,’ said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
Feroz was involved in 17 cases of murder, attempt to murder, assault on police personnel, robbery and Arms Act. He was wanted for killing Delhi Police constable Shivraj Tomar, posted at Jafrabad police station in northeast Delhi. Feroz had shot Tomar in the chest when he tried to apprehend him on 14 July, 2014.
