A notorious history-sheeter and gangster carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 was arrested by the police of Gautam Budh Nagar on Sunday night during a raid in Greater Noida. Sunder Bhati, the leader of Bhati gang, was wanted in more than four dozen high profile cases of loot, murder, kidnapping and extortion, including murders of former Zila Panchayat Naresh Bhati, BJP leader Vijay Pandit and brother of Dujana gang leader.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Preetinder Singh, said there was information that Sunder, his brother Shihraj and other gang members would camp in their native Ghinghola village. The police kept close vigil for one week and their presence was confirmed on Sunday following which a raid was conducted at his hide-out. A massive encounter took place from both sides and the gang leader was arrested later.
Meanwhile, Shihraj and other accomplices managed to flee the spot. “The entire gang was on police’s net for a long time and several attempts were made in the past to nab them, especially Sunder Bhati,” said Singh. “With his arrest we will be able to crack his nexus with other gangs and control crime cases across the region,” he added.
The Bhati gang has been involved in high-profile crime cases and is known for the use of automated weapons and bullet proof vehicles. The gang has engaged with police on various occasions in the past. It is also infamous for extorting money from law enforcement agencies. In the last few years, the gang drew quite an attention for tiffs with Kasana and Dujana gangs respectively. Kasana’s uncle had allegedly been killed by members of the Bhati gang and the latter himself was accused to have been involved in the killing of Anil Dujana’s brother.
