A gang involved in the theft of livestock was busted by Special Unit of Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Tuesday. Three members were arrested and a country-made pistols, two live cartridges and a stolen car were seized.
This gang had recently damaged PCR vans in the Outer district while making an escape attempt. Two PCR officials were injured in the incident. With the arrest, six cases of theft have been solved.
According to the officials, various teams of Delhi police were trailing the gang. The Crime Branch then zeroed down on the Rizwan gang of Ghaziabad, UP. A team was continuously chasing the gang members in Delhi, Meerut, Ghaziabad and Hapur.
‘Crime Branch received the tip-off that Rizwan and his gang would come to Indraprastha Extension in Patparganj in a stolen Santro. A trap was laid and around 7.10 pm, the Santro arrived. Three persons, identified as Rizwan, 40, Mohhammad Aaqil, 23 and Jaane Alam 21, were apprehended,’ said a police official.
The gand had purchased a stolen Tata 407 vehicle to steal the animals. Heavy iron bumper was fitted to the vehicle to damage the intercepting vehicles. They also used to keep heavy stones in the vehicle to discourage police from chasing them.
