Gang of auto lifters busted, expensive bikes recovered

Delhi police solved eight cases of motor vehicle theft with the arrest of two accused persons — Bunty alias Batua (24) and Ranjeet (22) — on Sunday. The two hail from UP.

Seven expensive motorcycles, stolen from Central and South Delhi, were recovered from their possession.
Kotla Mubarakpur police station received an information that one auto lifter gang member Bunty, alias Batua, with his associates would come to INA Market on a stolen motorcycle. A team under the supervision of Kulwant Singh (assistant commissioner of police, Defense Colony) spotted a Bajaj Discover motorcycle coming from Sarojini Nagar side through the DDA Vikas Sadan towards INA Market. After chasing the bike, the police party apprehended both the accused and arrested them.

During interrogation, accused Bunty revealed that initially he had joined Vishnu gang and committed several petty crimes along with its members. Later, he came in contact with Ranjeet and other members and resorted to auto lifting in order to fulfill meet his expenses.

During the day, Bunty and Ranjeet used to conduct reconnaissance of various areas and identify the vehicles which they would steal later in the night. One of them would break the locks of the bikes, while the other kept guard in surrounding area. They used to sell stolen vehicles in the area of Badaun and Mainpuri district in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, Bunty was arrested for crimes involving possession of illegal arms and criminal trespass.
