Gang involved in fake insurance scam arrested

In a joint operation with the Special Staff of South-west district, Delhi Police Crime Branch busted a gang of cheats involved in a fake insurance scam. Three have been arrested who are said to have cheated many gullible people all over India on the pretext of providing huge dividends/bonus on their existing insurance policies. The accused persons have been identified as Vandana Dass (23), Vishal Mishra (20) and Aniket Mishra (27). The matter came to light when a 76-year-old senior citizen — Kripal Singh, was informed by one Godwani, impersonating himself as an LIC officer from Mumbai that he has earned a handsome bonus on his existing insurance policy. The caller asked him to deposit some charges towards income tax for the bonus clearance. On his inducement, the victim deposited a sum of around Rs 22 lakh. Thereafter, he was asked to deposit more which made Singh suspicious and he made a police complaint.
