‘Gambhir’s brother’ bashes man in city

In a road rage incident, two persons, one claiming to be the brother of cricketer Gautam Gambir, allegedly battered a taxi driver in Karol Bagh area, police said on Thursday. The duo vent their anger out when the taxi driver bumped into their car causing a minor dent. The attacker had apparently dropped Gambir's name to threaten the policemen when they tried to intervene.

According to the complaint given by the constables, Anand and Vikram, the incident took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Both the cops were manning a police picket near Jassa Ram hospital when they were informed about the scuffle on the Pusa Road.

They immediately rushed to the spot and found two persons, one of them later identified himself as Raghav Gambhir, were battering a man mercilessly, shouting abuses. The victim was later identified as Jaspal Singh.

When the two constables tried to intervene, the man who identified himself as Raghav Gambhir apparently said, 'I am Raghav Gambhir, the brother of Gautam Gambhir'.

The policemen managed to get victim out of harm's way and sent him to the hosiptal in an auto-rickshaw. Meanwhile, the two attackers, who were in an Accent car bearing registration number (DL 6CJ 8817), sped away from the scene.

'The injured was later admitted to the Jassa Ram hospital. Vikram informed the local police on PCR. A case under Sections 308 (attempt to culpable homicide), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code has been registered after the statement of victim Jaspal Singh,' said Devesh Srivastav Additional Commissioner of Police (central).

'No arrests so far. The owner of the car has been identified through the registration number.'

'Raghav, son of Gautam's uncle, Yogesh Gambhir, who runs a textile business, is a resident of Rajinder Nagar. We still haven't identified the other attacker,' said a police officer.

The victim's family was informed about the incident. He is undergoing treatment in Jassa Ram hospital.
