The number of detractors from within the BJP against its national president Nitin Gadkari is increasing with each passing day. On Tuesday, it was the turn of BJP MP from Hazaribagh, Yashwant Sinha.
‘I call upon Shri Nitin Gadkari, with all the humility at my command, to immediately step down from the post of party president,’ said Sinha, a former foreign and finance minister, in a statement. The BJP leader while justifying his statement said that the question is not whether the party president is guilty or not, but the people who are in public life should be beyond reproach.
The BJP leader also questioned the manner in which Gadkari was given a clean chit by RSS acolyte S Gurumurthy saying,’We have no right to let down the people of India. This is what we have done by taking the easy way out through a questionable method of self certification.’
The BJP, however, was not too pleased with Sinha going public with his resentment against the party president. ‘Sinha is a senior leader of the party and all forums of the party are available to him. The party considers the statement issued by Sinha as inappropriate and BJP appeals to him to reconsider his stand,’ said BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad.
