Gadkari allays Land Acquisition fears

In its bid to allay fears about the Land Acquisition which has now become a politically sensitive issue, the central government on Wednesday said that it will take full care of interests of the farmers.

“The government will not undertake land acquisition for private companies. The government will acquire the land only for defence, rural infrastructure, cheap housing and government industrial corridors,” Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told a BJP rally here.

The rally was organised by the Delhi BJP to clarify the policy of the central government on Land Acquisition. It was an attempt to apprise about the efforts being made by the central government for the development of farmers and about the compensation being given by it for damage by untimely rains.

As Gadkari reached the venue at around 8.30 pm, two hours late by his schedule, most of the audiences had left. “The government will pay compensation up to four times higher than the prevailing market prices and the proof of government’s intention is that during the last 10 months the central government has paid compensation up to thrice above the prevailing market rates while acquiring land for transport and power ministries,” added Gadkari.

He further added that the central government would also be ensuring that along with compensation every farmer’s family gets one job. To protect farmers it has been decided that land can be acquired only within one kilometer of railway line for industrial corridors.

He further emphasised that the government would make farmers self dependent who will not have to see towards the sky for every crop. We will take good education to every village so that rural people too can contribute to nation building. Delhi MPs Parvesh Verma, Ramesh Bidhuri, Meenakshi Lekhi and senior leaders were also present in the rally.
