University of Delhi (DU) may not be able to come out of the logjam over FYUP for a while but entrance test for Bachelor with honours in Management Studies (BMS) will be held as scheduled.
Entrance test for all applicants of BMS will be held as scheduled between 3-5 pm on 26 June. In case, there is change in admission guidelines by the competent authority, the same test will be valid for admission 2014 to such a programme,’ said Alka Sharma, Registrar, DU.
‘For 840 seats in BMS under FYUP, 25,000 students have applied for the same,’ according to sources. Though entrance test for BMS may have shown some sign of normality, the row regarding FYUP still continues, with both supporters and opponents continuing with their protests.
‘We have decided to continue our hunger strike with hope that the Prime Minister steps into save the autonomy of the DU and sanctity of his own vision. DU’s FYUP aligns our degree with skill at a very big scale and speed, something which our Prime Minister has seen as a key to global compatibility and competitiveness to turn India into a superpower,’ said Aditya Misra, former DUTA president and Member of Executive Council, DU.
A group of teachers are on hungerstrike from 24 June demanding end of UGC interference in DU. On the other side, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Delhi University Student Union (DUSU), All India Students’ Association (AISA) and others continued with their protest to scrap FYUP and also, demanded resignation of Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh. ‘We took mashal juloos against FYUP from Arts faculty to DU metro station. We can’t tolerate this dictatorship of Dinesh Singh. Also, in all this, students are the most affected. We want admission to start at the earliest,’ said Saket Bahuguna, Delhi State Secretary, ABVP.
The fight over FYUP is delaying the admission process which was supposed to start from 24 June.
Uncertain about how long this fight will go on, a member of DUSU said: ‘We will continue our protest till FYUP is not rolled back. It is not our fight, but a fight for democracy and justice for students and teachers.
