FYUP fear: Hundreds attend open session to seek answers

Despite the reservations about the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) from various quarters of the Delhi University including some teachers and students’ associations seeking its revocation, there are minimum questions asked on the controversial programme during the open house sessions of Delhi University.

The questions generally pertained to the details about the programme such as — what flexibility do the FYUP offer like the diploma, degree and honours option unlike last year when hundreds of questions were thrown at faculty members during the open house session about the controversial programme.

‘What’s the difference between FYUP and three year graduation programme’, asked Ankit Vats, awaiting his 12th results and also a DU aspirant.

‘This is the first university in the country to offer FYUP. While all other universities offer fixed four-year tenure, this is a flexible programme wherein a student has the option of leaving and still get a certification. One can leave the course after two years and get a diploma certificate. If one wishes to leave the course after three years, s/he is entitled for a degree while a full four-year programme would earn the student an honours degree,’ explained the professor to a query raised by Ankit.

Meanwhile, the first open house session at South Campus this year was attended by over 1,000 aspiring students. The open house sessions are organised by DU to answer admission-related
queries of aspirants.
