Delhi University vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh has locked horns with Union Human Resource Development minister Smriti Irani on the rollback of the disputed FYUP courses. The V-C on Saturday managed to secure the approval of academic council in the favour to continue the programme introduced in DU last year.
‘The academic council passed the resolution that the FYUP is completely in confirmation of 10+ 2+ 3 years pattern of national policy on education ,’ said a press release from DU after meeting of the council which continued till late on Saturday night. ‘The students will be admitted in the current session will be awarded graduate degree with major discipline (major subject) after completion of three years which is completely in confirmation with NPE norms,’ added the press release. It further explained that the fourth year would be optional and students would get honours degree after completing it.
Thus V-C has virtually refused to buckle under pressure after UGC asked him to scrap FYUP on 26 June.
Singh also blamed the Central government for depriving the University of the Opportunity to secure 42,000 secured jobs for skill-based course graduates for which DU had signed MOU with NSDC. The introduction of the course has now been deferred by the council. The council also deferred introduction of B-Tech forensic science for which a record number of 46,381 aspirants have applied said the release.
