Students from other universities joined FTII students on Tuesday in a day-long hunger strike outside the I&B Ministry’s office against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the premier film institute’s chairman. The agitators threatened to stage rallies across cities to mark 100 days of their stir.
Students from FTII, Pune, Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia squatted on the road outside Shastri Bhavan, which houses the I&B Ministry, and were forcibly removed by the police, which claimed that they had not taken prior permission for the demonstration.
Twelve students were detained. “They had not taken permission to stage the protest. The detention has been done considering law and order issues,” a police officer said.
