Once upon a time in a land far far away, there came about a martial art form that we today know as kung fu. We aren’t narrating the next plot line for Kung Fu Panda (or we could be), but the concept behind the The Legend of Kung Fu and this show is going to hit the Capital by the end of this month.
Merging history and legends with a liberal dose of some gravity-defying stunts, romance and action, The Legend of Kung Fu is the first-of -its-kind show to be brought on stage. And as rumour has it, this is the first time India will see a performance like this.
The main thought behind the show comes from China where it was performed in 2004. It was also the official show for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and finally in a collaboration that took place last year, The Legends of Kung Fu comes to India after five years.
Bringing together 50 artistes is no mean task and the repertoire boasts of some of the best talents from China on stage at one time bringing you a story that merges with the legend to create a visual extravaganza.
‘India has never seen such an act,’ says spokesperson Deepak Bahl of Arya Carnivals, the team that is bringing the show to India in collaboration with China Heaven Creation. The 90 minute show brings the story of the Shaolin monks on stage, how Kung Fu came into being and a love story that will keep people tied to their seats, says Bahl.
The team has also tied up with a lot of schools who have expressed interest in the concept. The show is aimed at schools and corporates. ‘We are mostly focusing on the young crowd,’ says Bahl. The collaboration was made in October 2012, he adds.
The Legends of Kung Fu will be performed both in Gurgaon and in Delhi. So mark out your calendars as this could be a lot of fun. Don’t miss all the action.
