Fresh trouble for former Ggn MLA

Another fresh FIR has been registered against former Haryana Sports minister and Gurgaon’s ex-MLA Sukhbir Kataria and 62 others in connection with the fraud voters’ case.  However, this time, Kataria has also been accused of misusing his ministerial powers and giving sports grants to undeserving people. This is the 39th FIR against the former Youth and Sports minister. This time the case was registered after a recommendation was received from the Special Investigation Team on Sunday of the Gurgaon district court under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code at Sector 5 police station.

Kataria has been accused of his alleged connivance with local residents who forged documents to show that they were voters of Gurgaon. The minister won the Badshahpur Assembly seat by a mere margin of 2,138 votes in 2009 as an independent candidate. Apart from the fraud involved in getting fake voter ID cards, Katatia was also booked for murder and extortion cases earlier this year.

However, later in an RTI filed by Om Prakash Kataria, founder of Matdata Jagruk Manch, Gurgaon it was revealed that as many as 81 votes were made from one house and Delhi BJP lady mayor’s voter ID card was also registered on the same address.

His RTI also revealed that the house on which fake voter IDs were registered is a vacant plot without registry. According to investigating officials, later acting on the petition filed by the complainant Om Prakash Kataria, an AAP member, the district court under Section 156(3) of the CrPc quashed over 30,000 fake votes.
