Fresh spell of shower in city

According to weathermen, the current spell of rain will continue on Tuesday, followed by a cloudy weekend.

“This year, Delhi has received unusually high rainfall in the last two months. We have received 123.1 mm of rain so far from March, against an average of 20.4 mm,” said a senior weather officer of Delhi Regional Meteorological Centre.

According to weathermen, Delhi received 2.0 mm of rain on Monday evening and is expected to receive light rain on Tuesday as well. The maximum temperature on Monday was recorded at 32.2 degree Celsius, which was three points below normal, while the minimum was recorded at 18.9 degree Celsius – two notches below the normal. “The maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday were 32 and 19 degree Celsius,” he added. The maximum and minimum humidity was recorded at 92 per cent and 48 per cent respectively.

The unusual rains have created havoc on farmers of the North Indian states, including the National Capital Region thereby forcing the government to announce compensation for the destruction of crops. According to weathermen, the current rain has not only destroyed crops in the fields but also delayed the sowing of the next crops.

“We will extend all possible helps for farmers, besides compensation. We will provide subsidies on seed, fertilisers and pesticides to farmers in our area as they have lost all their crops and don’t have money for the next crop,” said a spokesperson of Delhi government. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently announced Rs 20,000 per acre compensation to the farmers in city.
