Frequent attacks on cops in Capital leave officers worried

Though Delhi police have upgraded themselves as a smart police in terms of using new technologies, weapons, patrolling vehicles, to name a few; but on the ground they have failed to strike fear of their acumen among the criminals.

In the recent past, dozens of incidents have been reported where cops were attacked by the criminals when they policemen on duty tried to either stop or chase them on suspicion. And such incidents are no more happening in the Capital’s outskirts.  On last Saturday evening, three criminals opened fire at two constables who were patrolling in Delhi’s heart Connaught Place, leaving one cop injured.

The frequent attack by the criminals on the cops on duty has become a major concern for the senior police officials. Sources in the department told Millennium Post, ‘After Saturday night incident, Deputy Commissioners of Police and Additional Commissioners of police have been asked to make a chart of the places that are vulnerable in terms of anti-social activities. Accordingly these areas will be barricaded with heavy deployment of armed police force.

‘There is no solution to curb the supply of illegal weapons in the national Capital. However, in past few years the manufacturing of the country-made pistol in the city has declined but the criminals are aware about the dealers who supply them the desired weapon at very low cost. These weapons are manufactured in the neighbouring states,’ Dharmjeet, a police official  posted in east Delhi said.

Many factors are contributing in the frequent attacks on the cops. ‘A separate team is needed to study to behaviour of these criminals who do not have the fear of police and the fear of law,’ a police official requesting anonymity said. ‘If the policemen in the city are not safe so how can we trust on Delhi police for our safety,’ Annu Gupta, an engineer by profession sighed!
