French envoy meets Yechury on nuclear liability issue

With CPI(M) strongly opposing any dilution of nuclear liability law, French Ambassador François Richier on Thursday met its senior leader Sitaram Yechury in an apparent bid to persuade the party to give up its tough stance. Richier met Yechury at the party office to explain the French stand on the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act which ensures accountability of the suppliers.

‘I expressed to him our constant position on the liability issue. We respect the law of the country we are working in,’ Richier said after the meeting. ‘We also discussed nuclear cooperation and the issue of liability, which is an important element. As you know, CPI(M) has a strong stand over the liability issue. We spoke about the trend and growing cooperation of the nuclear electricity production,’ the Ambassador said.
