elhi Jal Board (DJB) has clarified that water supply would continue to Sangam Vihar and other unauthorised colonies where water connections are not available through water tankers and tube wells free of cost.
A few days back, media reported that tube wells in Sangam Vihar have gone dry and the residents are not getting water due to DJB officials’ negligence. ‘DJB had installed about 160 tube wells in the entire Sangam Vihar area and had recently taken over 34 private borewells which were being operated by the water mafia,’ said DJB spokesperson.
These tube wells existed on the public land and the private operators were indulging in illegal extraction of water and were selling it to the residents at exorbitant prices. After taking over the possession of these 35 borewells, DJB installed its own electricity connections and submersible pumps along with other electrical accessories.
