Free health check-up camps held at Durga Puja pandals

In a bid to raise awareness about the benefits of preventive health measures in the national capital during Navratras, the union ministry of health and family affair ran several health check-up camps at various Durga Puja pandals across the city. The health camps were part of its flagship programme Swasth Chetna Evam Jan Sahyog Abhiyaan (SCEJSA) .

While extending best wishes on Navratra and Durga Puja, union health minister Harsh Vardhan said, ‘SCEJSA shivirs were opened at five big Ram Lila grounds and a Durga Puja mandap in Chittaranjan Park during the festive season. Devotees must visit these camps to get themselves checked and also avail free diagnostics and secondary treatment opportunities.’

Giving details about the locations of the camps, health director (non-communicable diseases)  Rajiv Kumar said shivirs have been orgainsed at Luv-Kush Ram Lila (Red Fort); Sri Balaji Ram Lila (Karkardooma); Ram Lila Ground (Trinagar), Shalimar Bagh; Ashok Vihar Phase 1(near Dhyan Chand Stadium), etc.

‘In all 26 doctors, 90 paramedics/nurses and more than 200 volunteers were involved in SCEJSA. They were drawn from AIIMS, Dr RML Hospital and various hospitals of the Delhi government,’
Kumar added.

At the centres, facilities for free tests for blood pressure, blood glucose (random), and body-mass index tests were available.

The shivirs started functioning on 28 September and within three days about 4,200 people have been screened.
