Free education for transgender kids in Delhi schools

Delhi Lieutenant Governor has approved the inclusion of ‘transgender’ child within category of ‘children belonging to disadvantaged group’ as defined in the said section of the Right of education Act (RTE Act) applicable to all schools situated within Delhi. ‘For this, the competent authority has exercised of the powers conferred by clause (d)of section 2 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009(35 of 2009) (RTE Act),’ said a senior education officer. The Directorate of Education has issued a notification whereas all major stakeholders are communicated about the decision including MCDs (East/North/South), NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board. The DoE of NCT of Delhi has issued an instruction to all schools in this regard.
