Free bicycle to poor labourers: UP govt

After distributing laptops to students, cash and bicycles for girl students, free sarees and blankets, the Uttar Pradesh government, with an eye on the coming Lok Sabha elections, has decided to dole out free bicycles for poor labourers.

The government would be distributing free bi-cycles to the poor labourers and the process to purchase these items has already been started by the department concerned, sources said. Interestingly, bicycle is also the election symbol of the Samajwadi Party.

SP spokesperson and minister Rajendra Choudhury on Wednesday said  it was a long pending promise made by the party during the assembly elections and now it is being fulfilled.

‘Our government is concerned for the poor people of the state and we want to serve them. We are not like the previous government, who only cared for building memorials and parks and siphoned off money through corruption,’ Choudhury said.

He said the SP government has fulfilled all the promises made before coming to power at the Centre.

The UP government has provided several sops for the youths and people of the state including revival of the unemployment allowances and Kanya Vidya Dhan, Rs 30,000 cash for muslim girls, laptops for 12th passed students, two sarees for BPL women and a blanket for older persons.

The government was yet to start the process to provide tablets to the 10th passed students.
